بازیکن تیم فوتبال استقلال گفت:

World Sports News reported: Roozbeh Cheshmi, on the sidelines of the blue team’s return to Iran, commented on the draw against Al Ahli in the Asia Elite League, saying: “Al Ahli was the leader of the Asia Elite League, and Esteghlal put on a decent performance both defensively and offensively in Jeddah. We deserved to win and take all three points.”

He added: “If it weren’t for the refereeing issues, we had a chance to leave the field as winners. The second penalty for Al Ahli was not correct, and even the Al Ahli players themselves were confused about how the referee awarded the penalty! Their striker, Ivan Toney, played smart in that moment and stayed on the ground long enough for the referee to call a penalty.”

The Esteghlal player continued: “The referee should have reviewed the scene where he awarded the penalty for Al Ahli, but he didn’t do that. The refereeing was such that the Saudi representative wouldn’t lose. The referee was nervous. In one instance, Zobair Niknefs didn’t say anything to the referee, and as soon as he wanted to speak to the referee, he issued the first yellow card, and he could have given a second yellow as well.”

Cheshmi added: “Esteghlal deserved to win, and based on the performance we displayed, we were worthy of the three points. However, considering the two penalties awarded to Al Ahli and the red card to one of our players, getting even one point against Al Ahli isn’t a terrible result.”

In response to the question of how much chance Esteghlal has to advance to the next stage of the Asia Elite League, he said: “For now, we have league matches ahead of us, and we’ve focused our attention on these games, but we have two more matches in the Asia Elite League, and there is an opportunity for us to advance to the next round of this important tournament.”

Regarding Iran’s failure to host in Tehran, the Esteghlal player said: “I hope the hosting issue for Iranian representatives in the Asia Elite League and the renovation of Azadi Stadium is resolved before the resumption of the Asia Elite League matches. Not holding the Asia Elite matches and even the second league of the Champions League outside our country has had negative consequences for Iranian representatives. Without a doubt, if we play in Iran, the conditions will be different.”
