The world champion in rowing said: “Dragon boat” is not an Olympic sport yet, but it’s set to be added to the 2028 Olympics, and I hope that with this development and achieving the best results, we can make history.

Dragon Boat is a team rowing discipline. This sport is conducted in boats with either 10 or 20 rowers, along with a steerer and a drummer, totaling 12 or 22 people in each boat.

Fatemeh Zandi stated on Sunday: “The addition of dragon boat rowing to the Olympics is still not certain.”

She mentioned that winning an Olympic gold medal is one of her dreams and added, “We faced very tough competitors at the World Dragon Boat Championships held in the Philippines, and we managed to break the world record in 9 minutes and 30 seconds, becoming champions.”

The world rowing champion noted, “In this round of the world competition, teams such as Russia, Canada, Germany, Thailand, Spain, and even the Philippines were very strong opponents for us, but the Iranian team was able to win the world gold medal through hard work.”

Zandi continued, “Iran succeeded in these competitions by winning the gold medal for the 2000-meter 10-person dragon boat event, a silver medal for the 500-meter 20-person event, and a bronze medal for the 2-kilometer 20-person event.”

She pointed out that winning gold medals in sports, especially at the world level, is a dream for every athlete, saying, “Winning the world gold medal at the World Dragon Boat Championships was a huge honor for us, and this feeling is indescribable. We hope to replicate these championships.”

The world rowing champion reminded us, “In team sports, all members need to be well-prepared, and since we were being sent to the world championships, we had to reach the highest level of physical fitness and constantly train in camps and team practices.”

Zandi said, “From a physical fitness perspective, participating in these competitions is extremely important. If even one of the team members loses their paddle, we would lose time, because even a thousandth of a second is crucial in these competitions.”

She continued, “Thanks to our hard, continuous training and good preparation, the team put in their best effort, and we managed to win the beautiful gold medal at the World Dragon Boat Championships.”

He added: Considering the hard and continuous training and the good preparation we had, the kids gave it their all, and we managed to win the shiny gold medal at the Dragon Boat World Championships.

The world rowing champion also commented on the separation of the rowing federation, saying: Rowing is set to split from the flatwater federation, and my sport, Canadian canoeing, is also a subset of flatwater.

Zandi mentioned: Rowing is currently with the rowing federation and includes single, double, and four-person events, and it’s supposed to be separated from the rowing federation.

“Fatemeh Zandi,” who holds three world medals in dragon boat and six national championship medals in Canadian canoeing, succeeded in winning the gold medal at the Dragon Boat World Championships held from November 8 to 14 in the Philippines.
